German population calls for more education on the risks of “the silent killer” – high blood pressure

New European study shows 67.2% of Germans are not monitoring their blood pressure because they don’t show any symptoms and do not feel concerned.

Switzerland, 12 September 2011 – High blood pressure or hypertension is the biggest single risk factor for heart disease and stroke and currently affects 1.5 billion people worldwide . According to a new study commissioned by Kaz Europe, the manufacturer of Braun blood pressure monitors under a license to the ‘Braun’ trademark, the German population believes more should be done to educate them about the risks associated with high blood pressure. Most of the German people surveyed believe they are not at risk of hypertension since there are no obvious symptoms and only a small number monitor their blood pressure on a regular basis at home.
